Summary Of 2018
The Philadelphia Phillies showed they were ready to compete during 2018. Philadelphia had a nice start to their season despite finishing April in the middle of the East division. Philadelphia had a 16-12 record by the end of the month and was two games away from the leading Mets. Some expected them to sink behind the leaders, however, by they were still hanging around just one game off the lead in the East by the end of May. Phillies were no fluke.
Washington fell off the top spots at the NL East by mid-season, that gave the Phillies a chance to go full steam ahead in their chase for the pennant. Despite their efforts, Atlanta proved to be too much for Philadelphia. Phillies could not keep up with the leading Braves down the final stretch of the season. During the final weeks of the regular campaign not only were the Phillies overtaken by Washington for the second spot in the standings, but they also fell two games under .500. 80-82
The 2018 Phillies season showed that they still had to tweak some things here and there in order to be competitive for the entire season. There were some good and, there was bad. Pitching was a strong point for them as players like Aaron Nola and Jake Arrieta threw constantly for the most part of the season. On the other, offensive production from their outfield player left much to be desired. Nick Williams, Aaron Altherr, Jose Bautista and, Dylan Cozens. None of them batted for more than .260 for the year. Neither did any of them had more than 50 RBI during 2018. Their final place in the standing looked decent, but there was plenty of room for improvement.
