Week 19

Week 19 of our AL Power Rankings has an even bigger shakeup than the week before. The Yankees have reclaimed the top and the Red Sox have fallen off dramatically.

1. New York Yankees (72-39) Last Week: 7

The Yankees are at the top of our AL Power Rankings once again. New York took Monday off and then split a series against Arizona. The weekend was the highlight of their week as they swept the Red So in a four-game series. They’ll face Baltimore and Toronto this week.

2. Tampa Bay Rays (65-48) Last Week: 6

The Rays went perfect for Week 19. They were the other team that swept Boston in a three-game series. Tampa made quick work of the Marlins after that in a two-game series. Their winning streak sits at six games and they hope to keep it going against Toronto and Seattle.

3. Houston Astros (73-40) Last Week: 1

The Astros have fallen down a couple of spots in our rankings this week, but that’s no reason for concern as they look as strong as ever. Houston took two out of three from Cleveland on the road and swept the Mariners during the weekend. Zack Greinke is expected to debut on the mound for them this Tuesday against the White Sox.

4. Minnesota Twins (69-42) Last Week: 5

Minnesota took two out of three from the Marlins to start the week. They too had a nice weekend as they swept the Royals in a three-game series. They will face the Braves and the Indians hoping to put some distance between them and the Tribe.

5. Cleveland Indians (66-45) Last Week: 2

Cleveland had a slight misstep to begin the week as they lost two out of three against Houston. They bounced back over the weekend with a three games sweep against the Angels. The Rangers and the Twins are up next for them.

6. Toronto Blue Jays (60-48) Last Week: 6

The Blue Jays kicked things off in impressive fashion with a three-game swept against Kansas City. Their winning streak stopped at five games as they lost back to back games against Baltimore to split a four-game series. They hope to stop the Rays as they will face them for Week 20.

7. Oakland Athletics (64-48) Last Week: 8

The A’s took two out of three from the Brewers after taking Monday off. They later swept the Cardinals over the weekend. Week 20 will see them face both the Cubs and the White Sox on the road.

8. Texas Rangers (57-54) Last Week: 13

The Rangers split a two-game series against the Mariners to kick things off. Things would continue to go well for them days later as they swept the Tigers in a three-game series. Texas will go head to head against the Indians and the Brewers this week.

9. Chicago White Sox (48-61) Last Week: 14

The White Sox remain true to their identity: they’re not great, but they aren’t terrible either. This was evident this time around as they got swept by the Mets in a three-game series and later won their series against the Phillies over the weekend. Detroit and Oakland are up next for them.

10. Baltimore Orioles (38-73) Last Week: 9

The Orioles will hang on in our ranking’s top 10 for yet another week. This is a considerable improvement from previous weeks. Baltimore split an interleague series with the Padres and later did the same on a four-game series against the Blue Jays. A tough week lies ahead of them as they will face New York and Houston.

11. Seattle Mariners (47-67) Last Week: 4

Seattle didn’t stay long at the top of our rankings as they’re back to their usual ways. The Mariners split a two-game series against divisional rival Rangers and then lost three straight against the Astros

12. Detroit Tigers (32-75) Last Week: 15

The owners of the worst record in the American League had a good start to their week but, it came crashing down by the end. The Tigers took two out of three from the Angels on the road just before losing three straight against Texas.

13. Los Angeles Angels (56-57) Last Week: 11

The Angels were on the other end of the Tigers’ wins and the rest of their week wasn’t pretty at all. After losing the series to Detroit they lost three straight ballgames against the Indians. They hope to turn things around against the Reds and the Red Sox this week.

14. Kansas City Royals (40-73) Last Week: 10

Kansas City had a bad week after climbing a few spots in last week’s rankings. The Royals failed to win a single game this time around as they were swept by Toronto and Minnesota. Six losses in six days.

15. Boston Red Sox (59-55) Last Week: 3

The Red Sox lost when it mattered the most and have gone from the pinnacle to the pit. Boston has lost 8 straight games going back to last week’s rankings. The Red Sox got swept by the Rays and Yankees. Their losing streak puts them at the bottom of our AL Power Rankings.
