Summary of 2018
The Cubs spent 86 days in first place in 2018. Unfortunately, they had to play a 163rd game at Wrigley Field to determine the division winner. The Cubs lost that game and then lost a home Wild Card game. It was the first time that they did not make it to the NLCS since 2014.
The Cubs had the highest batting average and the fourth most runs
in the National League. Javier Baez led the team with a .290 average, 35 home runs, and 111 RBI. Anthony Rizzo added another 25 home runs and 101 RBI.
The Cubs pitching staff was second in the National League with a 3.65 ERA. Jon Lester had a league-leading 18 wins as he led the rotation. Newcomer Yu Darvish went down with an injury and only started 8 games in 2018.
