Week 13

Week 13 of our AL Power Rankings has arrived. Our previous leader has gone down the ranks. Some teams have improved slightly while others just mourn at the bottom of our Power Rankings.

1. New York Yankees (49-28) Last Week: 7

The Yankees were one game short of a perfect week of work. New York swept Tampa Bay in a crucial three-game series. They kept on rolling as they later got three out of four games against Houston on the road to end the week.

2. Minnesota Twins (50-27) Last Week: 2

Minnesota stays put behind the leader for one more week. The Twins keep running away with the AL Central lead despite not having the flashiest of weeks this time around. The Twin Cities’ team lost a three-game series against Boston to begin the week. They later split a four-game series against Kansas City to close off their week of work.

3. Cleveland Indians (42-35) Last Week: 5

Cleveland is back to a usual spot in our rankings thanks to a good week of baseball. The Indians split a four-game series with Texas at home to start things off. They swept Detroit over the weekend to end the week in good spirits.

4. Boston Red Sox (42-37) Last Week: 6

Boston has climbed a pair of spots in week 13 of our rankings. The Red Sox took two out of three from the Twins to start the week and later lost their three-game series against Toronto on the road.

5. Texas Rangers (42-36) Last Week: 3

Texas dropped two spots in our rankings this week. Despite losing some ground, they are still not out of our AL top five. The Rangers split a four-game series with Cleveland at the beginning of the week. They later won their series against the White Sox over the weekend to end the week.

6. Oakland Athletics (41-38) Last Week: 8

The Oakland Athletics had a relatively good week. Oakland swept Baltimore in a three-game series to begin the week and later got the best of Tampa Bay during the weekend. The Athletics hope to keep their good shape next week as they keep fighting for second place in the AL West division.

7. Los Angeles Angels (39-40) Last Week: 12

The Angels had one of those weeks in which they can show you how good they can be while also demonstrating how bad they can perform at the same time. Things started off nicely for them as they took three out of four from Toronto at home. Unfortunately, that was followed with a series loss to St. Louis.

8. Chicago White Sox (36-39) Last Week: 10

The White Sox had a bad week, there is no doubt about that. Despite that, their week was not the worst of them all. Chicago split a two-game series with their cross-town rivals Cubs to start the week. Things did not go well after that as they lost their series to the Rangers. All in all, it could have been worse.

9. Seattle Mariners (36-47) Last Week: 11

The good news is Seattle is finally trying to rebuild. The bad news is they are still stuck at the bottom of the AL West. Seattle lost a three-game series against Kansas to start the week. They later rebounded by winning a series against Baltimore. That was to be expected however, so it does not amount to much.

10. Detroit Tigers (26-47) Last Week: 9

Detroit had a similar week to Chicago’s. The Michigan team started its week splitting up a two-game series against Pittsburgh on the road. Contrary to the White Sox, they did not put much of a fight over the weekend as they were swept by Cleveland.

11. Tampa Bay Rays (45-33) Last Week: 4

Tampa Bay is runner up for our “Tumble Of The Week Award”. The Rays must have messed up their timing as this is no time for them to start losing. Tampa started off their week getting swept by New York. They finally broke through after four straight losses by winning the second game of their series against Oakland. Nonetheless, they still lost their series against the A’s.

12. Houston Astros (49-30) Last Week: 1

Our unofficial “Tumble Of The Week Award” goes to the Houston Astros for week 13. This past week was a rough one for Houston despite their big lead on the AL West. Houston failed to win all but one of their games. They were swept by Cincinnati and later avoided another sweep by New York thanks to a Sunday win.

13. Toronto Blue Jays (29-49) Last Week: 15

Not much has changed for Toronto when it comes to baseball. Toronto lost three out of four games against the Angels to start off the week, and then got the better of Boston over the weekend to finish off their work.

14. Kansas City Royals (27-51) Last Week: 14

Kansas City remains stuck at the second to last place of our AL Power Rankings. The Royals got the better of Seattle as they got two out of three games on the road. They were later lucky to split a four-game series against Minnesota. Look at the bright side Kansas City fans, Chiefs preseason is almost here.

15. Baltimore Orioles (22-56) Last Week: 13

Baltimore’s performance would be worthy of pity if we weren’t so used to them being down at the bottom of our AL Power Rankings. The Orioles started their week with five straight loses off the hands of the A’s and the Mariners. They broke that losing streak only to fall again a day later. Orioles’ fans can grab a bottle opener for just $3.99 at the MLB Shop if they wish to drown their sorrows in alcohol.
